     It is always exciting to get an invitation! Whether it is to a wedding, a graduation, a birthday party, or some other special event, it is fun to think about the experience that awaits at the event. Those invitations make us feel connected to other people and give us a certain sense of value. We matter to someone, and they want us to be with them!

     I firmly believe that one of the wisest things that we can do is resist the invitation to find our value in events and experiences and find our real value in pursuing those things in which God has placed eternal value. I read a recent article about a note that was found in a Confederate soldier’s jacket who was killed in action. It was a small piece of paper tucked inside his jacket. It so wisely stated:

“I asked God for strength that I may achieve; I was made weak that I may learn to humbly obey;

I asked God for health that I might do greater things; I was given infirmity that I might do better;

I asked God for riches that I might be happy; I was given poverty that I might be wise;

I asked God for power that I might have the praise of men; I was given weakness that I might feel the need of God;

I asked God for all things that I might enjoy life; I was given life that I might enjoy all things;

I got nothing I asked for but everything I hoped for, and I am among all men most richly blessed.”

     God has invited us to an abundant life that is filled with value (John 10:10). I pray that we take up His invitation to find everything that we need in a close, daily walk with Him. Our richest life is found in the riches He invites us to accept that nothing in this world can take away. God really, really loves us!! The cross is the proof, and it is our invitation to join Him. Let’s make sure that we do not get selfish with this invitation. Someone is waiting for you to invite them! I will see you soon at GSBC!
